Mermaids in Movies Part Two

A few weeks ago we explored some popular movies that included mermaids.

Today, we have even more mermaid films for you to consider.

First up is the movie Aquamarine.

It stars Emma Roberts (who was great in Nancy Drew). It's about a girl who makes a wish so she doesn't have to move away from her best friends. She ends up turning into a mermaid, complete with blue hair and a fin! It's really an adorable film.

Next up are the mermaids in the perennial favorite Hook.

It's not a long scene, but it's an important one. In it, Robin Williams falls into the ocean and is saved from drowning by three beautiful mermaids.

Another movie that features mermaids is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Here's one more movie that features not just mermaids, but merpeople. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (the book and the film), mermaids play a central role to the plot.

For the second task in the Triwizard Tournament, the mermaid in the painting of the prefect's bathroom helps Harry figure out his egg clue. He dives underwater and opens the golden clue, and out comes the beautiful voice of a mermaid singing about the next task.

During the task itself, Harry is blocked from saving all of the people at the bottom of the lake by the merpeople.

They look pretty scary in the film, don't they?

As you can see, mermaids have infected pop culture in so many ways, including beloved films. I hope you enjoy some of these old and new classics!
